Listening to 20 year old rapper Scrapp Deleon’s mixtape is like a breath of fresh air as he effortlessly weaves true experiences into the form of raps; differing stories about loss, pain, fun and finally triumph. Scrapp, a ten year vet in the game started out with the group Da Razcalz Cru along with his older brother Dolla. After the group disbanded due to Elektra Records folding and the untimely loss of Dolla who was gunned down at the Beverly Center in LA, Scrapp is back with the aptly-titled mixtape No Better Therapy hosted by producer and DJ Don Cannon. “That’s my main motivation…my brother…everything happens for a reason and it’s an unfortunate situation but it’s humbling. I’m just here to carry out his legacy and start my own as well. The title speaks for itself and on it, I kind of vented.” The 16 tracks are loaded with versatility while blending his love for the ‘A’ as well as the West Coast. “I have a lot of family in California so it’s a blend but more so Atlanta because I’m A town, Zone 6 to the heart.” The poetic raps are raw but solid; showcasing Scrapp’s fondness for wit and metaphors over the celebratory bass and bounce beats Atlanta is known for and reminiscent of the early sound of Scarface and T.I. Rhyming over Nas’s ‘If I ruled the world’ Scrapp kills it with this one line, “Allergic to broke, it fucks with my sinus”. Showing devotion to Dolla throughout, Scrapp channels Tupac and really lets his pain loose on Remember Me. For all the haters, pass on this one because Scrapp Deleon isn’t budging. “I’m not here for the ringtone or the single deal. I really do this. I have a name and I’m here to make history.” Spoken like a true artist. No Better Therapy drops early March.
